Technology in the classrooM
Edmonton Catholic Schools is committed to 21st Century Learning.
Students are encouraged to use technology to assist and support in their learning on a daily basis. In our Grade 5/6 classroom, devices that can access a wireless environment such as an IPad, IPod, netbook or laptop are welcome and encouraged for student use as a tool in the classroom. It is important to note that these devices are to be used for educational purposes only. I encourage students to create an “Education” Folder on their device, where any educational apps or tools can be kept and easily accessed for use during class time. Students will not be permitted to play non-educational apps or games during school hours.
Please refrain from texting or messaging your child on his/her device during school hours. Should you have a message for your child, please call the office and we will pass the message to your child or have your child come to the phone to talk to you. Equally, students who need to communicate with their parents must ask an adult and use the school phone.
Digital Citizenship
Definition: Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately. Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology. Too often we are seeing students as well as adults misusing and abusing technology but not sure what to do. The issue is more than what the users do not know but what is considered appropriate technology usage.
